Avast ye! Today, much like in the golden ages of pirarcy, there was no such thing as a “pirate” ship. There was no shipyards where pirates would go and commission and pay for a pirate ship to their specifications. A pirate ship is defined as any vessel whose sailors and krewe are engaged in piracy. Thus, anything from a raft or canoe to a massive frigate or man of war could be considered a pirate vessel. Pirates could and did use very small boats at times, even canoes when nothing else was at hand. It is with a glad filled heart that the Mukfest Pirates of Salish Sea have acquired their first pirate ship, which is currently in drydock being made ready for the 2022 Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival scheduled in September. Blimey our krewe is no longer shipless, undoubtedly tipping our favorite tonic with swagger.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain once said these words of truth.
